A Brief History
The Allen Kiwanis Club is a local chapter of Kiwanis International, a global service organization guided by the motto “Serving the Children of the World.” Founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 1915, Kiwanis has expanded to encompass approximately 9,000 clubs across more than 80 nations.
The Allen Kiwanis Club was established on February 4, 1988, at K-Bob’s Steakhouse in Plano, with thirty-one members under the auspices of the Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis International, sponsored by the McKinney Kiwanis Club with Steve Ferguson as club president. Initially assigned to Division 8 and later to Division 37, our club now resides within Division 2 of the Texas-Oklahoma District.
As members of the Allen Kiwanis Club, individuals from diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to forge professional connections, delve into local, national, and international issues, enhance leadership capabilities, and actively engage in community affairs. Our fundraising endeavors include adorning our community with US flags on Flag Days, organizing the Ron Gentry Memorial Golf Tournament, and hosting the beloved Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast with Santa. Service initiatives encompass steadfast support for Allen Community Outreach, Samaritan Inn, and Children’s Miracle Network.
Our club proudly sponsors Circle K at the University of Texas at Dallas, as well as Key Clubs at Allen High School, Independence High School in Frisco, and Reedy High School in Frisco. Additionally, we foster academic excellence by awarding Terrific Kid certificates to students in grades K-6 within Allen ISD and Lovejoy ISD, and by annually gifting dictionaries to all third graders. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors and sophomores attending leadership seminars, reflecting our commitment to nurturing future community leaders.
